Artificial intelligence (AI) is undeniably one of the most rapidly advancing technologies in our modern world. Its potential knows no bounds, and its applications are reshaping industries across the board. Whether it's revolutionizing digital assistants, streamlining software updates, or optimizing manufacturing processes, AI is unlocking countless opportunities for businesses of every scale. But what lies behind the AI revolution? What makes it such a powerhouse of growth?
What propelled the exponential growth?
Artificial intelligence (AI) has made an indelible impact across a multitude of industries, revolutionizing the way businesses operate and unlocking unprecedented opportunities. Let's explore the key factors that have catapulted AI's rapid growth and widespread popularity.
FUTURES WITH AI
SHOULD WE BE WORRIED?
While artificial intelligence has brought remarkable advancements, the concept of Artificial General Intelligence
(AGI) takes the potential impact to a whole new level. AGI refers to highly autonomous systems that possess a
general intelligence similar to human intelligence, encompassing a broad range of cognitive abilities. However, as
AGI pushes the boundaries of AI capabilities, concerns and fears have emerged regarding its potential implications
and the associated risks it may pose.
The thought-provoking conclusion: A striking prediction suggests that by 2137, automation will have replaced all
human jobs. However, as we envision a future where machines take over our tasks, it begs the question: What role
will humans play? Perhaps we'll find ourselves leisurely sipping umbrella drinks, served by droids, as a testament
to the evolving dynamics between humans and technology.
Diego Klabjan, a professor at Northwestern University and founding director of the school’s Master of Science in
Analytics program, counts himself an AGI skeptic.
“Currently, computers can handle a little more than 10,000 words,” he said. “So, a few million neurons. But human
brains have billions of neurons that are connected in a very intriguing and complex way, and the current
state-of-the-art [technology] is just straightforward connections following very easy patterns. So going from a few
million neurons to billions of neurons with current hardware and software technologies — I don’t see that
happening.”
WHAT THE EXPERTS THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE WITH AI?
"if we steer carefully, we could end up in a fantastic future where everybody’s better off — the poor are richer,
the rich are richer, everybody’s healthy and free to live out their dreams.”
-Max Tegmark, MIT physics professors and leading AI researcher
“Time to understand what we’re creating and how we’re going to incorporate it into society, might be exactly what we
need.”
-John Laird, University of Michigan engineering and computer science professor
